New Electrical License Law for Journeypersons and Apprentices in the State of Delaware

As a result of the enactment of House Bill 180, anyone performing electrical services in Delaware must hold a Delaware professional license as an electrician effective June 30, 2012. After that date, it will be illegal for unlicensed persons to perform electrical services, which includes Journeypersons and Apprentices.

Performing "electrical services" or "electrical work" is defined by the Board to mean any activity that is covered by the National Electrical Code (NEC) as adopted by the Delaware State Fire Commission. Examples are provided in Section 1.0 of the Board's Rules and Regulations available on www.dpr.delaware.gov   click on Electrician and then on Rules and Regulations.

The application form and instructions are available on www.dpr.delaware.gov click on Electricians and then on Forms. File applications as soon as possible, do not delay.

A non-refundable processing fee for a Journeyperson Electrician License will be $60.00 and for an Apprentice Electrician the processing fee will be $50.00. This will be good for two (2) years.

The contact person for the new licensing law is Jennifer Witte, Administrative Specialist II, Delaware Department of State, Division of Professional Regulation, Phone: 302-744-4539 and Fax: 302-739-2711 .
